caAdapter is an open source utility that facilitates HL7 v3 message building, parsing, and validation. The caAdapter offers an open source platform that enables healthcare applications to build and parse HL7 v3 messages based on specific message definitions. The caAdapter performs vocabulary validation and integrates with the National Cancer Institute Center for Bioinformatics (NCICB) caCORE components.
The caAdapter helps the NCICB achieve its goal of sharing information throughout the cancer research community by building common tools, a common architecture, and common standards. The technical architecture of the caAdapter supports data sharing via the HL7 v3 messaging standard at NCICB or any cancer research center as part of the caBIG (Cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid) solution. The caAdapter comprises two components–the core HL7 v3 engine and a GUI mapping tool. The mapping tool is a graphical interface that maps clinical data to HL7 v3 messages.
The ScenPro team provides HL7 v3 domain expertise, requirements analysis, and quality assurance/testing support for the caAdapter effort. ScenPro has partnered with another NCICB contractor to develop the next generation of tools for building HL7 v3 messages. The solutions we provide will position HL7 v3 as a messaging and data exchange standard in the healthcare community.
The ScenPro team is an established authority on the HL7 v3 data exchange standard. The team functions as HL7 analysts as well as HL7 v3 educators and provides support to other teams at NCICB. ScenPro also actively participates at the HL7 v3 working group meetings and provides input to various v3 specifications that are of interest to the customer.
